Bun In the Oven

UltrasoundThat is right, Jess is pregnant! We had been trying for about a month and kazaam! Jess is definitely fertile Mertile. We believe she is somewhere between 9 and 10 weeks along. We actually go to the doctors next week for our first visit. I don’t recall what they do on the first visit, but I’ll fill you in.

It is estimated that she is due sometime in June 2009. We’ll probably know more after the appointment.

A Police Experience

Wow!…Do I have a story for you guys?  Yes, yes I do.  As most of you know I own a mortgage company, named Movement Financial Group.  In short, we hire loan officers and they originate mortgage loans, so people can buy homes, land, commercial property, etc. Let’s get to the story.

It all starts back about 4 months ago.  We had a couple of guys come into our office looking to get hired on.  While speaking with them I grew to really like one of the two.  Unfortunately, they came as a package.  They whey had been working together for about 3 years.  One was the guy that got the business and was the boss (let’s call him Joel); the other played the assistant role (he’ll be known as Alan).  I preferred the boss-man. Let’s move on…

I came into the office one morning about 2 months ago to a nice little story.  Apparently they had a huge argument and the whole office heard it.  The assistant had a bad temper (as I found out) and had thrown a bunch of stuff around the office, and even at Joel.  Joel came to me and apologized and was very embarrassed about the whole situation, but said he cannot work with Alan anymore.  I called Alan into my office to talk with him about the situation and figure out what the heck was going on.  Alan told the same story as Joel, and admitted he lost his temper, but it would never happen again.  I made a judgment call, and fired Alan.  I could not allow that kind of behavior in my office.  Alan packed up his materials and drove off in his older Ford Explorer.

Here’s where the story gets interesting.  Well, I had 3 visitors in my office yesterday.  One of them did mostly all of the talking, while all 3 flashed their badges and showed me their guns.  They were from the Utah Bureau of Investigations.  Basically the FBI on a state level.  They started asking me all sorts of questions, and of course I was hesitant to tell them anything until I knew exactly why they were there.  The Agent was unwilling to tell me anything.  I even asked him to explain what this was all about.  He didn’t seem to appreciate that comment as he said to me, “I’ll do the asking right now.  Now is my time to ask the questions, you’ll get yours.”  Eventually he brought up Alan’s name to me.  I told him everything I knew about Alan, which was basically nothing.  The Agent finally disclosed why he was looking for him.  They had reason to believe Alan was collecting funds from out-of-staters. These funds were being sent to my office, so the Agent said.  Unfortunately I have never seen any mail with money in it - it could have made a good Vegas trip for me.  There was also reason to believe that he was “communicating with underage children by means of an electronic device.”  He kind of disclosed it had something to do with child pornography.

This whole thing makes me sick, although I wouldn’t put it past this guy.  He always gave me the willy’s.  Had he not been part of the package deal with Joel, he never would have been brought on.  It was refreshing to get an opportunity to let him go, and I never thought twice of it.  It turns out it was a good decision.  Who knows?  He probably would have been using the office computers to do that crap.  If that had been the case, I probably would have beat his *** myself.

There’s something very overwhelming about having the FBI walk into your office and grill you.  The moment they stepped into the door they took over the place.  It was like a bad disease had just affected us all.  I can’t explain the feeling, but those guys are trained to be recognized and “felt”, that is for sure!

There is a lot more I can tell you, but you get the jist.  Give me a call if you’d like to hear more.

Our Vegas Trip

This was at the Bellagio Gardens

We just recently made another trip to Vegas.  It was our third time in as many years.  We love going to Vegas.  The reason we went this time was because my parents were there celebrating their 34th Anniversary.  We decided to go down for a long weekend and enjoy some time with them.

We had a good time while we were there.  We mostly walked around and did more site-seeing.  We cannot get enough of the casino’s.  There is always something to see there.  The place is amazing.  We went into a couple of casinos that we had never been in before and browsed what was there.

One of the days, Jess, my father, and I all woke up and got ready to go to Sahara and play some blackjack.  Jess had never played before, so she just stood behind us and watched us for probably 20 minutes.  After a lot of begging from me, Jess finally sat down and played.  We played for about another 2 hours and then we needed to leave to go to a show we had tickets for.  I could barely pull Jess away from the table.  She loved it SO much!  Now all the talk at our house is buzzing over to Wendover some evening to play a little 21.  (Wendover is a small town about 1.5 hours from our home just over the Nevada line.  There is basically nothing in the town except for a few hotel/casino’s.  It’s a very popular place for people from Salt Lake to go since it’s so close, and apparently the slots are fairly loose.)

After playing 21, we went over to Harrah’s and went to a comedian/magician.  He was really good and quite funny.  We then had a good dinner at Rio’s casino at the World Carnival Buffet.  It has literally every type of food and tons of it.  I mostly filled up on Crab legs, shrimp, and a little bit of sushi.

All in all, Jess, Haylee and I had another great time in Vegas and we can’t wait to go again.  It was also fun for Haylee to see grammie and grampa.  She also loved all the lights.
